Exquisite lighting is the first step to capturing your image. A good photograph with a lasting impression must stand out amongst piles of headshots or zed cards that casting directors are viewing in order to find that one face they seek. The photographer’s duty is to bring out your magnetism through his lens, but it is your responsibility to display your charismatic self in every aspect.

IMAGE
Be aware of the image you portray. Define your role or typeset carefully; details count. Get into character and bring the personality that your role requires, this will come through on camera. A sexy vixen role cannot have a shy girl try to play the part, nor can a lawyer be played by a jock. Stay consistent with your identity and remember to choose your wardrobe and accessories wisely. They are the tools that support your image, not make it.

WARDROBE
The outfits you choose will greatly affect how you are perceived, so carefully select clothes that will compliment your image. Minimalism works best, but must be pieced together thoughtfully; certain things just don’t work well in photographs. Avoid solid white, deep "V'' necks, (unless a more sexy image is desired), and sleeveless tops. Loud prints, paisley, polka dots, checks, etc., will take away from the focus on you. Accessories should also be kept to a minimum.

HAIR & MAKEUP
Hair and makeup are also very important details. Keep consistent and fix yourself up the way your character would. For example, a mother would have light makeup and loose, tousled hair. A lawyer would have her makeup a little more stated and her hair done and in place. You may choose to do your own hair and makeup or hire a hair and makeup artist; average rates are $150.

FINALLY
Be sure to get plenty of sleep the night before your shoot to have a well-rested face; this, too, will come through on camera. Practice what you’re going to be doing in front of the mirror - it will come in very handy when you step in front of the lens. Last, but not least, stay away from stressors and relax so that you come with a good attitude and can collaborate well with the photographer.
